What is “The Third Thing?”

Have you ever finished a ride, wrapped up a wild swim, or returned from an adventure feeling something deeper, something more true than the thing itself? I think that’s the essence of the Third Thing. As poet D. H. Lawrence describes it, the Third Thing is knowing that water, or matter, or anything really is made up of definable, component parts, but that there’s also another “thing” that makes it what it is. And no one really knows what it is.

On The Third Thing, you’ll find stories of this extra bit of life that we can quite put our finger on, but know makes life worth living, adventures worth taking, and stories worth telling.

There’s also a weekly newsletter capturing stories from around the internet about the Third Thing.
