Normal Life Field Report #6
Be accountable to joy
Location: Couch corner on a rainy fall day, Grand Junction, CO
Date: 10/23/25
Weather: MOODY
Vibes of the month: Be accountable to joy
Grand Junction is having one of its rainiest falls on record. It’s misty and damp and the whole atmosphere smells like (wonderfully) moldy leaf litter. I’m making soups and braises—as is my right—and avoiding as much of the news as a person in my line of work can.
The best part of October has been putting the finishing touches on my book proposal. I’ve rewritten it now about a dozen times and think it might finally be in a spot to start querying. My Google Drive looks something like this:
I’m poking around for agents, looking at indie presses, and contemplating how I want to get this thing out into the world. Because I’m VERY excited about it. And I think I’ve got a real good idea here (that I will tell you more about when someone commits to publishing it). It would also be pretty freakin’ spectacular if someone wanted to pay me a little money for this book.

There’s been plenty of Tex time, though rides are getting tougher with the rainy weather and earlier nights settling in (just two weeks away from the time change!). But still, we’re having a blast together.
I had my first of several iron infusions, which turned out to be a block of 2.5 hours where I just got to quietly sit and read my book in a super comfy leather recliner while very nice nurses brought me juice and snacks—I felt absolutely pampered. Interested to see what changes over the next month with all this extra blood power!
